SLIT = Sublingual Immunotherapy. Can it safely and effectively treat food allergies?
SLIT is the new kid on the block when it comes to food allergies. To really dive deep on safety and effectiveness, I had the pleasure of interviewing Dr. Edwin Kim.
Who is Dr. Edwin Kim?
Dr. Edwin Kim is a world-renown allergist. He leads the Food Allergy Initiative at UNC Chapel Hill, a destination institution for families with food allergies. Dr. Kim has been researching food allergies for over a decade and himself has kiddos with food allergies.
What does Dr. Kim's research on SLIT and young kiddos say?
Dr. Kim is a pioneer in his work with SLIT. His most recent publications share his team's data on the safety and effectiveness of SLIT for children ages 1-11 years-old with peanut allergies. Some of my favorite publications include:
- Open-label study of the efficacy, safety, and durability of peanut sublingual immunotherapy in peanut-allergic children
- Desensitization and remission after peanut sublingual immunotherapy in 1- to 4-year-old peanut-allergic children: A randomized, placebo-controlled trial
